Preliminary Hearings
The Court will occasionally have a hearing before the final hearing date to deal with a specific point, but only to:
Make Special Directions – the Court may feel that the case requires more work before it can be decided at trial and so will make more unusual directions such as a requirement to clarify or order for specific disclosure of documents.
Summarily Disposal – the Court may feel that there is no real defence or claim and want to get rid of the case (i.e. where the dispute is trivial or does not make sense) by having a hearing to see if a matter should be struck out, dismissed or summary judgement should be entered.
